Somavision’s New Oculus Rift Porn Offering

Is SomaSex in Trouble?

There are plenty of developers jumping on the bandwagon to make Oculus Rift porn – and not just videos, either. Many companies are also developing interactive porn games for it (Oculus Rift is designed for gaming) and it looks like the Rift's immersive experience and head tracking is going to open up a large market for this new form of adult entertainment.

One of the companies purportedly working on Oculus Rift porn is the SomaSex network, which you may recognize if you play porn games. The brand hasn't been responsible for very many impressive titles in the past, with the exception of Digimour and 3D Plaything. Even their featured entertainment on the home page looks years behind some of the best 3D sex games available out there – but the fact that they have announced they are working on virtual reality porn is good news to us. The more players there are on the field, the better it will be for us Oculus Rift porn enthusiasts.

The new content, which is tentatively built around SomaSex's BabeSoul franchise, looks pretty solid – there are videos of concept models below.

For the latest updates visit the developer blog at SomaSex's web site promises procedural head controls, HUD buttons for clothing removal and contact sensitive tools (that sounds promising for peripheral support.)

Here is the trouble: Lots of developers of Oculus Rift porn are in trouble. Developing for virtual reality turns out to be a lot more difficult than programming for a standard PC, and SomaSex may be encountering the same sorts of difficulties We haven't heard any word on SomaSex's plans for Oculus Rift porn since last year, and updates are slow to come out. This usually doesn't sound like a company is making good progress on a project – they would want to ramp up press coverage in the time preceding a launch, not drop off the map entirely.

At press time for this post, SomaSex's homepage was down (though other pages within the site are still working fine) and the last time they posted an update about their virtual reality porn project was nearly a year ago. We have contacted SomaSex to try and get an update on where they are at, but until then, we'll all have to wait and see what they have in store for Oculus Rift porn. If they are in trouble, we might lose another contender in the field to the exacting technical specifications of virtual reality-based adult entertainment.
